SAIRES

A visit to Saires, aptly named because it lies at the foot of the white hills, nestling on the edge of the white forest, is a must. You’ll come to Saires to be inspired by the tranquillity that reigns here and the authenticity of a charming village. It was first mentioned in 1090 as “ecclesia de Saeriis”. The village grew up around its Romanesque church, dedicated to St Peter. The houses in the village are clustered around this 11th-12th century Romanesque church, topped by a 16th century stone spire. The church has been altered and now boasts a mixed architectural style with its openwork Gothic gallery. Take a look at the Fontaine d’Aton, the washhouse that collects water from the Aton spring and resembles a house without a roof.
