One of the oldest listed monuments in Poitou, almost a thousand years old. Erected in the 11th century, the Prieuré Saint-Jean is in fact a vast Abbey richly endowed with the origin of the Anjou Appellation wines of the northern Vienne sector; the Benedictine monks who came from the Abbey of BOURGUEIL imported the first vineyard plan in 1076 and innovated by building a remarkable and unique architecture identifying the vineyard;Abbaye de BOURGUEIL imported the first vineyard plan in 1076 and innovated by building a remarkable and unique architecture identifying the transition period of late Romanesque and early Gothic Art for western France.
