Saint-Chartres

Between the Lauray and Chollay mills, there’s a surprise at every turn: bridge, spring, fountain, wash-house, mill. There is a long list of curiosities along the footpaths (La sente Divine route no. 15). Admire the Ayron fountain and stone bridge, the Roche springs, the dry Fond Rivaud valley and the old quarries on the Roche cliffs. Here, in a setting of exceptional vegetation and geology, hard limestone was carved on site: troughs, troughs, stone sinks and well copings were used to make their way to Loudun farms.
