POUANCAY

The history of Pouançay is closely linked to that of the Dive canal. In the 19th century, the canal enabled grain, tufa stone and wine to be transported to the Loire and to the hamlet of Motte Bourbon, which was one of the first lines of defence in the Loudunais region during the 100 Years’ War. Admire the beautiful sundial carved into the tufa stone in the Romanesque church of Saint Hilaire.
The ubiquitous tufa stone and ancient troglodyte dwellings contribute greatly to the village’s charm, which is sure to win you over!
