Messemé is distinguished by its vast, fertile plain scattered with large cereal farms. Balet porches form the entrances to these farms, providing temporary shelter for crops and equipment. The jewel in the Commune’s crown is undoubtedly the elegant Château de la Motte (private site), with its moat and vast hunting grounds. Built in the 15th century on a feudal motte, it has remained in the same family since its origins. The former church of Villiers (private site) has been in ruins since the 19th century, with only the bell tower-wall or bretèche remaining. It seems that the bretèche was designed as early as the 6th century when the bell first appeared and was often placed at the entrance to small Merovingian naves.
