Maulay

MAULAY

A village nestling in its valley, surrounded by wheat fields, sunflowers and woods spreading over fertile hills: this is how Saint Martin or Saint Radegonde came to discover Maulay. The first mention of Maleciaco dates back to 987. The foundations of Saint Martin’s church date back to the 12th century: the oldest part is certainly the bell tower with its two slopes, which is very rare in the region. The Château du Haut Maulay (private site), built at the end of the 19th century near the slate-covered medieval tower, is the only remaining vestige of the castle of the local lords. Maulay is located on the Saint Martin en Poitou road, which provides access to Candes-Saint-Martin via Richelieu.
