Abundantly watered by the Dive, a river sacred to the Celts, the picturesque village of La Grimaudière nestles wisely against the limestone hillside. Generous springs gush up from below, supplying the Loudunais region with drinking water. Its name, La Grimaudière, comes from the name of the family who lived there in the Middle Ages, known as “Grimaudaria”. Gargantua was able to find riches to match his appetite: rich orchards, meadows teeming with rare flowers and streams teeming with fish. One of the last watermills on the Dive can be discovered in the picturesque Surin entrenchment: a treasure made all the rarer by the fact that the mechanism is complete and in perfect condition.
