At Glénouze, the gentle countryside awaits you…
The Gallo-Roman name “Glenosa” is thought to have come from glenare glaner and osa terrain.
Set in a hilly landscape, the village sits on a hillside. The Romanesque church of Notre Dame is remarkable for its 18th-century bell tower. Once the site of a seigneury, the fiefdom was under the control of Loudun castle.
The place names reveal the importance of the landscape heritage and its raw material: tufa stone.
Jalnay Castle (private site) will also surprise you: this totally asymmetrical building gives a strong impression of classicism.
