Located in the far south of the Loudunais region, Craon was once part of the barony of Mirebeau. The village’s architecture is a blend of late medieval and 19th-century classicism, with several Croix patées rising above the crops. These secular and sacred markers are carved from a mummolithic block of local stone. Their splayed branches are reminiscent of the Maltese or Templar crosses, not forgetting the Templar chapel at Vieillemont just a few kilometres away. The imposing church of Saint-Michel stands in the centre of the village. On the square, appreciate the presence of two local heritage objects: an ancient trough made of local stone and a terracotta vat that is an old washing pan.
